5 toxic chemicals you must avoid to protect your health

We are exposed to toxins every single day through our environment, food, children’s toys and cosmetics.  Thyroid disorder and breast cancer is on rise and more and more Doctors are looking into the increasing diseases and possible relationship to toxic chemicals.

In 2019, I was invited to attend the World Medical Congress. It was clear to me that the case studies being presented by the international gynaecologists stated that environmental exposures has an affect on women’s thyroid function and breast health.

I myself have noticed that more and more women who book Ayurveda consultations with me have a beginning stage of thyroid disorder. Over the last year I have had 5 women with severe stage of thyroid disease called Hashimotos disease, a high stage of thyroid disorder and almost impossible to cure once it has reached what we in Ayurveda call stage 6.

What I notice all the women had in common is this:

  • They live in cities
  • They have been under lots of stress 6-12 months prior to the beginning of the imbalance (hashimotos thyroid disease)
  • They lack a balanced lifestyle-routine and often suffer from stomach bloating

HOW TO BEST PROTECT YOURSELF FROM THE 5 TOXIC CHEMICALS

We are exposed to toxins every single day through foods, packaging and cosmetics such as soaps and shampoos . We can choose to reduce or avoid those damaging chemicals as much as possible to protect our health.

Below I have made a list for you to help you become aware the top 5 toxic chemicals to avoid in your daily life.

Here are the 5 toxic chemicals to avoid to protect your health

  1.    Parabens
  2.    Fragrance (air fresheners, parfume, unnatural cosmetics)
  3.     BPA
  4.     Pesticides and fluoride in food
  5.    Triclosan

1.PARABENS

Parabens are used in many cosmetic products worldwide, and is often found in creme, hair products, sunscreen lotions and baby care. Some countries (like Denmark) have removed parabens in nearly all cosmetic products in Denmark.  I came to know about parabens more than 12 years ago, and have been avoiding the toxic chemical ever since. I still see the toxic chemical in many international products.  I recommend you stay away from all parabens.

The most commonly used parabens are:

  • Ethylparaben (E214)
  • Methylparaben (E218)
  • Propylparaben (E216)
  • Butylparaben (E209)

Many skin care products contain one or more of these toxic chemicals. In Morocco nearly all cosmetics I’ve come across are loaded with these parabens, even baby lotions and baby shampoos! I have also found parabens in tooth paste in Morocco!

Women’s skin care is the worst, and I highly recommend anyone to avoid cosmetics of any kind containing the above toxic chemicals. Parabens have been under suspicion for years and are associated with:

Thyroid disease

Breast cancer

Hormonal disorders

Low fertility health of women

Low sperm quality in men

How do I know if a product contains parabens?

Always check the ingredient list of your product. Don’t buy it if you see these chemicals on the list. If a product doesn’t show any ingredient list, never purchase it. You need to know what you consume to avoid the use of damaging chemicals.

2.FRAGRANCE

What we put on our body will be absorbed into our blood stream. Women and men’s perfume contain toxic chemicals which are under suspicion for causing damage to our thyroid health, our hormonal and respiratory system.

Use natural products instead of toxic scents which damages yourself and the people around you. It takes 26 seconds for perfume to enter your bloodstream. Once in your bloodstream you increase the risk of damaging your health caused by chemical toxins in your body. This itself is a reason not to use perfume.

What we spray out is absorbed by our body. What is spray out in a room is absorbed into our lungs. Avoid the use of chemical indoor sprays (toilet sprays, room freshener sprays, etc). They are full of toxic chemicals which can cause allergy, lung problems, hormonal disorder, coughs and skin allergies. Use natural room fresheners such as lemongrass oil, lavender oil, rose oil mix it with water and create your own organic room freshener.

3.BPA

BPA is a chemical found in plastic, children’s toys and canned food. It is very important not to heat food up in plastic. Use glass containers and avoid canned food. If you like to use chickpeas, lentils or beans already prepared, then get them in glass jars, not the canned ones.

Plastic and canned foods like tuna, canned corn, canned tomatoes and canned soda can damage hormonal health, because the cans contains BPA. BPA is used to harden the plastic in bottles and cans.

Children’s toys are often produced in China. Look out! Wooden toys are a better options for your child’s health.  Nowadays you’ll find many toy companies who produce wooden toys.

Research have shown that BPA can be harmful and affect brian health of children. The chemical has also been linked to breast cancer, damage to the female reproductive system and fat gain.

4. Pesticides and fluoride in water

We all know they are harmful. The pesticides pumped into the ground to make vegetables and fruits grow faster can all affect our thyroid health and our endocrine system.  As a result this can decrease fertility health.

Fluoride is found in water in many countries.  I personally feel the fluoride very strongly in the water in:

England

Morocco

Spain

Italy

I never drink the tap water when I am in any of the above countries.

Fluoride has been controversial for a long time. According to the International Association of Oral Medicine and Toxicology fluoride in drinking water is associated with:

  • Thyroid dysfunction
  • Acne /Skin problems
  • Neurological problems, possibly leading to ADHD

5. Triclosan

Is found in toothpaste, soaps and more. In Denmark most toothpastes with triclosan has been banned. When you are buying toothpaste look at the ingredient list.

Many Colgate toothpastes contain triclosan. Some studies have shown that triclosan increases the chance of developing thyroid disease, allergies, asthma and eczema in children and adults.

Take care of yourself and your body, not only today but every single day!
