Spiced Ayurvedic Apple Porridge





This recipe provides a balance of warmth, sweetness, and nuttiness—perfect for a cozy winter breakfast. This Spiced Ayurvedic Porridge is a favourite of mine and perfect for anyone who enjoys a warm and nourishing breakfast.




  • 1 cup (90g) rolled oats
  • 2 cups (480 ml) almond milk (or any milk or plant-based milk of your choice)
  • 1 large apple, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1 tablespoon dates or honey (add more or less to your liking)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  •  1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Chopped nuts (such as walnuts, hazelnuts or almonds) for topping



1. In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the rolled oats and almond milk.

2. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

3. Add in the diced apple with cinnamon, nutmeg, dates or honey. Stir until the apples are tender.

4. Once the oatmeal is cooked and creamy, remove it from heat.

5.  Serve the oatmeal in a bowl, and top with chopped nuts for added crunch.



You may also cook the porridge separately and cook the apples in a different pot together with the spices.  Then stir in the spiced apple compote into the oatmeal at the very end. I like to this on weekends when I have more time.
