Are you struggling to lose weight? Here’s what you need to know

If you’ve been struggling to lose weight, you’re not alone. Many people find it difficult to shed those extra pounds, despite their best efforts. However, according to Ayurveda, an ancient system of holistic healing system, there may be an underlying reason for your weight gain. In this article, we’ll explore the connection between weight gain and Ayurveda, as well as other factors that may be contributing to your weight issues.

Understanding Weight Gain In Ayurveda

If you’ve been trying to lose weight without success, it could be due to an imbalance in your dosha system. According to Ayurveda, there are three doshas – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.

The doshas govern our physical and mental characteristics. When one or more of these doshas are out of balance, it can lead to weight gain and other health issues.

Stress and Emotional Eating

Stress is a major contributor to weight gain, as it can lead to over-eating and unhealthy food choices. When we’re stressed, we tend to reach for comfort foods. Often we crave foods that are high in calories and sugar.

Emotional eating is also a common cause of weight gain, as we may turn to food to cope with difficult emotions or to fill a void in our lives.

Sedentary Lifestyle and Lack of Physical Activity

A sedentary lifestyle and lack of physical activity can also lead to weight gain. When we don’t move our bodies enough, we burn fewer calories and our metabolism slows down.

Make sure to incorporate regular exercise into your routine, even if it’s just a 30 minute walk a day or yoga session yoga session each day. Nowadays you can easily get your exercise from the comfort of your home.

If you align with Yoga or if you’re interested in exploring if yoga fits into your lifestyle and health goals, I offer online yoga sessions that can be scheduled according to your needs and time. We can practise together through one-to-one sessions (video/zoom). If you prefer pre-recorded videos, you have my videos here for lifetime use.

Poor Sleep Habits

Poor sleep habits and inadequate rest can disrupt our hormones and metabolism, making it harder to maintain a healthy weight. Prioritize getting enough sleep each night to support your weight loss goals. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep each night and establish a consistent sleep routine to help regulate your body’s natural sleep-wake cycle.

Artificial Sweeteners and Zero Sugar Products

Another factor that may be contributing to your weight gain is the use of artificial sweeteners. Danish Research has shown that people who consume zero sugar products, such as diet soda, zero sugar yoghurts, sugar free candy and sugar-free cookies, may actually be more prone to weight gain, especially around the tummy and waist. Additionally, excessive cravings can also be a side effect of consuming artificial sweeteners in foods and drinks.
