Spiced banana and cacao cake
As the air cools and days shorten, our body naturally seeks warmth, comfort, and grounding. This simple spiced banana & cacao cake brings all those elements together — a nourishing, aromatic bake that fills your home with the scent of cinnamon and cacao. Perfect for an afternoon tea or a quiet moment of rest.
Below you have my recipe. Feel free to adjust it accordingly to your liking.
Ingredients
(Serves about 6–8 slices)
- 2 ripe bananas, mashed
- 2 eggs (or flax eggs if vegan)
- 1 cup flour, or oat or spelt flour
- 2 tbsp raw cacao powder
- 5-8 tbsp olive oil or coconut oil
- 1–2 tbsp honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1-2 tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp cardamom (optional but lovely)
- A small pinch of sea salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a small loaf tin with baking paper.
- In a bowl, mash the bananas and whisk them together with eggs, oil, and honey or maple syrup.
- Add the flour, cacao, baking powder, spices, and salt. Stir gently until just combined — don’t overmix.
- Pour into the prepared tin and bake for 25–40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let it cool slightly before slicing. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
Serving suggestions
- Drizzle with tahini or nut butter for a protein-rich snack.
- Add a few dark chocolate chips before baking for a richer texture.
- Serve with warm herbal tea and a sprinkle of cinnamon on top.
Holistic Tip
In Ayurveda, autumn is associated with the Vata dosha — light, dry, and cool. To balance it, we seek warmth, sweetness, and softness. This cake is a lovely treat— I personally enjoy it as a grounding ritual after a long day.
